How Much Does an RTO Consultant Cost in Australia?
What drives the cost of RTO consulting — and how to get a fixed, clear scope before you commit.
One of the most common questions we hear is: how much does an RTO consultant cost? The honest answer is that it depends on the work. Here is what drives the price, so you can compare quotes properly.
What affects the cost
- Type of work. A desktop audit costs less than a full on-site audit. RTO registration is a larger project than a validation review.
- Size of your scope. More qualifications mean more strategies, tools and evidence to review.
- Sample size. Evidence reviews are priced on how many student files, claims or records are reviewed.
- Urgency. ASQA rectification responses must meet strict deadlines and may need more resourcing.
- Delivery model. Online, workplace, third-party and CRICOS delivery each add review areas.
Fixed scope vs hourly
Ask for a fixed scope: what will be reviewed, what you receive, and the timeframe. Open-ended hourly billing makes costs hard to control.
Typical timeframes
At RTO Intelligence, a desktop audit typically takes just over 1 week and a full audit just over 2 weeks, from commencement to final report.
The cost of not getting help
Compare the consultant's fee with the risk: audit sanctions, funding clawbacks, conditions on registration or lost scope. An independent review that finds gaps early is usually far cheaper than responding to regulatory findings.
