Internal Audits — FAQs
How often should an RTO conduct internal audits?+
At minimum annually across the full Standards, plus a rolling sample of every qualification on scope at least once between re-registration cycles. High-risk qualifications should be audited 6-monthly.
What's the difference between an internal audit and validation?+
Validation focuses specifically on assessment tools and decisions for a qualification. An internal audit covers the whole RTO — governance, marketing, enrolment, delivery, assessment, data and financial viability.
Will the audit findings be reported to ASQA?+
No. Internal audits are confidential between you and us. Findings are yours to action; we don't share or store evidence beyond the engagement.
How long does an internal audit take?+
A targeted desktop audit takes just over 1 week. A full RTO health check across the Standards takes just over 2 weeks from kick-off to delivery of the final report.
